At least 64 civilians have been killed in mass killings caused by airstrikes carried out by Myanmar’s military during the six months since Ye Win Oo became the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services, according to a report released by ISP-Myanmar today, October 7.

During those six months, 111 people were killed across Myanmar by airstrikes. Of these, 64 were killed in the Arakha region alone. This shows that attacks against the people of Arakha have become increasingly severe.

On September 28, for example, the military carried out an airstrike near India Market and the Kassapanadi Bridge in Kyauktaw. The attack reportedly killed 50 innocent civilians and injured nearly 60 others. This was one of a series of mass-casualty attacks in the region.

In the more than five years since the military coup, there have been at least 117 incidents of mass killings across Myanmar, according to the report. As many as 2,324 civilians have been killed in these incidents. The Arakha region is one of the areas that has suffered the highest number of airstrikes.

The military has increasingly carried out air attacks on areas under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). These attacks have reportedly targeted civilian buildings, markets, and urban areas that are not directly connected to military operations, resulting in large numbers of civilian casualties.
