The Arakan Army (AA) has confirmed that 49 civilians were killed in a mass-casualty incident after the Myanmar military carried out an airstrike near a crowded market and bridge in Kyauktaw town.
The airstrike was carried out at around 12 p.m. on September 28, when a Myanmar military fighter jet deliberately attacked the area around India Market and the Gacchapnadi Bridge in Kyauktaw with 500-pound bombs.
The bombing reportedly killed 49 civilians, including market vendors, travelers, and local residents, instantly. At least 58 other civilians sustained serious injuries.
The ULA/AA stated that the Myanmar military, which it said has been suffering setbacks on multiple fronts, has increasingly carried out attacks targeting schools, hospitals, markets, and residential areas, which are not directly connected to military operations, describing these attacks as war crimes.
Regarding the airstrike that resulted in the mass killing of civilians, the ULA/AA also stated that all those involved, including those who gave the orders, would face appropriate retaliation in due course.
