The death toll from an airstrike near India Market and the Kachapana Di Bridge in Kyauktaw has risen to 50 civilians, while nearly 60 people were injured, according to a statement from the Arakan Army (AA).
The Myanmar military carried out the airstrike at around 12:10 p.m. on September 28, according to the AA.
The attack reportedly killed many civilians, including people passing through the area, market vendors and shoppers, and workers involved in loading and unloading goods.
The dead and injured included men, women, children, elderly people, and pregnant women.
The report says that the Myanmar military has increasingly carried out airstrikes against civilian populations and residential buildings that are not connected to military operations.
The United League of Arakan (ULA) strongly condemned what it described as deliberate airstrikes against schools, hospitals, markets, residential neighborhoods, and villages where civilians live. The ULA said that those responsible would be held accountable.
